Choosing to move forward with a hair transplant is a big decision, and a lot of the anxiety around it isn’t medical — it’s about the unknown. What does the day actually feel like? Who’s in the room? What happens if it takes hours? Here’s a real look at what to expect when you come to New York Hair Transplant, from the team’s experience to the small details we think matter.

A Team With Decades in the Chair, Not Just the Classroom

Between Dr. Alexander Roth, M.D., Dr. Anna Fay Roth, M.D., and Dr. Kuldeep Singh, D.O., our team brings over 50 years of combined hair restoration experience. That matters most in the moments that don’t show up on a treatment menu — knowing how a hairline should curve for a particular face shape, recognizing when a donor area needs a different approach than the textbook case, and making real-time calls during a 6–8 hour procedure that keep the result looking natural years down the line.

It Starts With a Real Conversation, Not a Sales Pitch

Every patient starts with a free consultation and scalp analysis. We walk through your hair loss pattern, your donor area, and your goals honestly — including telling you if a transplant isn’t the right first step yet, and a non-surgical option like PRP or exosome therapy makes more sense.

Procedure Day: Comfort Is Part of the Plan

Whether you’re having Manual FUE or ARTAS® iX Robotic FUE, the day generally breaks down into a few stages: consultation and hairline planning, donor preparation under local anesthesia, extraction and recipient site creation, and implantation — typically 6–8 hours from start to finish for a full case.

A few things we do specifically to make that stretch of time easier:

Recovery: What Actually Happens Week to Week

Most patients see mild redness and scabbing in the first few days, with scabs naturally falling off by days 4–7 and most visible signs fading within two weeks. Temporary shedding around weeks 2–4 is normal (and expected) as follicles enter their next growth phase. New growth typically begins around months 3–4, with results continuing to develop through months 9–12.

Support Doesn’t End When You Leave the Chair

Many patients add exosome therapy or PRP in the first 3–6 months after a transplant to help accelerate healing and support graft survival, and some add an at-home LaserCap device — which we offer at a discount below retail — for ongoing maintenance between visits.

Real Patients, Real Timelines

We regularly share patient updates at 3, 7, and 12+ months post-procedure, because we think seeing real, in-progress results is more useful than a single “after” photo. You can see a growing collection of these in our before & after gallery, updated regularly with new patient results.

Start With a Free Consultation

If you’re on the fence, the consultation itself is a low-pressure way to get real answers about your specific case, timeline, and cost. We’re currently offering up to $2,500 off eligible procedures plus a free scalp analysis (a $250 value).

Book your free consultation at our Upper East Side, Manhattan location.
